What is guarana?

Guarana is a climbing plant belonging to the Sapindaceae family, botanically known as Paullinia cupana. It is characterized by red fruits containing dark seeds, which represent the most recognizable part of the plant. From a botanical perspective, guarana is classified as a tropical species naturally occurring in the humid climate of the Amazon region. Its plant structure and chemical composition of the seeds have been described in botanical and biochemical literature.


Origin and history of use

Guarana originates from the Amazon basin, where it has been part of the traditions of indigenous peoples for centuries, particularly among the Sateré-Mawé tribe.
